Intergalactic-cyber-warrior-princess. This was the mood of Nicholas Ghesquiere’s S/S 2007 collection for Balenciaga – think gold chain mail dresses paired with cropped, A-line boxy leather jackets and interlocking, shin pad-like metallic leggings. Add to that alien-inspired sunglasses and heavy, strappy heels and you’re ready to rock like its 2067.

The focus was all on sharp tailoring (a Ghesquiere and Balenciaga signature) and a new, armored-like way of dressing. It was definitely much harder than the puffed, frilly looks of season’s past and this collection will definitely serve to shock you at first glance. The words ugly, unwearable, and heinous may cross your mind – but take another look, and you’ll surely find comfort in the sharply cut trousers, the simple metallic sheaths, and the precision-cut leather jackets. Personally, I could have done without so much decoration, especially in a season inundated with 90′s references, but leave it up the Ghesquiere to bring us into the future, literally.
