Valentino S/S 2007
Valentino is another Armani – no longer trend-setting, but a destination for filthy rich woman who want to look, well, filthy rich. As usual, lots of rufflies, tier fabric, and enough red carpet gowns to dress even the camera men at the Academy Awards. Though, I appreciated the understated hair and makeup, which always seem to be a problem at his shows.

Dries Van Noten S/S 2007 
Dries is the master of beautifully easy, or even easily beautiful, clothes that are understated, but never boring. He always has such terrific prints, but the true standout this season was a multi-hued collection of sequins, which came on skirts and jackets. He played with volume in the season’s bubble and egg shapes, but always with an unpretentiousness that is all his own.
Givenchy S/S 2007
The return of Givenchy! Thsi season, Ricardo Tisci sent down amazing dresses with rope detail around the neck, one of the best blues of the season, and gladiator/space-age shoes that were right in step with this season’s futuristic, army look. It was slightly avant-garde, but always beautiful. In many ways, it reminded me of Balenciaga and considering the track record of Nicholas, this will likely mean a very promising future for Givenchy and Tisci.
