Is Fashion Big Enough for Two Cocos?

The face of a million collections – Coco Rocha. Think you’ve had enough of seeing the infamous Kate Moss and the Canadian-bred Daria Werbowy on every page of every magazine to ever be produced in the last year? If so, don’t ever learn the name or the face of another Canadian, Miss Coco. At the S/S 2007 collections, she (originally named Mikhail) was the face to beat, appearing on nearly every single important runway and opening up Balenciaga. On top of that, she has already appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia, which, in the modelling world, is like winning the lottery jackpot.

At first, she may strike you as nothing but pinch-faced and angry and not in a sultry or positively androgynous kind of way. But trust me, give her another chance, and you will see what other designers have already spotted – the most alluring little pout, the intensity in the eyes, the fierceness in the stance (blame Tyra and her little bleached pet, Jay Manual, for making me hate the word “firece” ) and a look that complements the harder, un-ladylike look of the collections. There may be room for two Cocos in fashion after all… .
