Bigs Jewels: From Runway to Print

  • Share

The new advertising campaign for Accessorize (Switzerland-based accessories retailer), created by Saatchi & Saatchi Simko, features oversized necklaces randomly snapped in the streets. The campaign is big, bold, and dramatic, much like the accessories showcased on the spring/summer 2007 runways.

From J.Lo-sized jewels on headbands and shoes at Marc Jacobs to toy-like, 80′s plastic hoops at Lanvin, ‘big’ is in. It’s refreshing to see after groupings of tiny bangles around the wrist or piles of small pearls. I think their charm is partly in the way these pieces say less, “Do you like my friendship bracelets? Can’t you see I’m popular?” and more, “Do you like my giant ring? Can’t you see I’m high maintenance?”
Conclusion? Great for blinding the woman heading for the last pair of size 8 Guccis in Saks. Bad for picking up men.
