More beauty-related, but I thought it was interesting…
Key Context: I don’t live in the Bible belt of America. I am not a born-again Christian. I go to Church as often as I like Mariah Carey outfits.
So there I was, at work, minding my own business. Okay, let’s be honest, I was looking at the clock to see when the torture would end. Meanwhile, I spot the parents of this guy I knew from highschool in the corner of my eye. I turn to smile and instead of having the gesture returned, they ask me “Why do you have long hair?”
“Because I like to” I respond.
“It’s a sin for a boy to have long hair,” the mother says. “The Bible says it is.”
“Um…okay.”
Guess what? According to 1 Corinthians 11: 14-15, NIV, “Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory”. Who knew?
I’m going to hell. No big surprise. But the best part is that Jesus had long hair. Another one of those “Do as I say, not as I do” things, right? Is it just me or does the Catholic Church revert to that phrase more often than not lately?
