The story of Ports 1961 is an interesting one. Starting – no surprise here – in 1961, Ports International (note: not Ports 1961) was a Canadian brand that reached the height of its popularity in the 70′s and 80′s, but was losing its edge towards the end of the decadent decade. It was not until the company was purchased by Alfred Chan, a Canadian entrepreneur, who moved the company’s operations to Xiamen (China) and gave creative direction to his wife, Fiona Cibani, and her younger sister, Tia, that the brand soared again.
Sales immediately took off, inciting Tia to launch Ports 1961 four years ago. Here is the S/S 2007 ad campaign shot in Buenos Aires, featuring model Maria Dvirnik, who was photographed by Geoff Barrenger. I think they effectively capture the understated, “afforable luxury” the brand is known for. That said, I think “affordable” luxury here means something very different than in China.

This looks like it was shot in Prague just like their F/W 06 campaign. That is the main train station in the shot (where there is the best second-hand shop in the city!).
