Whether you think he’s a disgrace to traditionalism or a forward-thinking, required kick-in-the-ass to menswear, everyone has an opinion on Thom Browne. Whatever your position, add more fuel to your argument by checking out this video collection on his website (www.thombrowne.com) or, if you live in Rachel Ray time, just watch the 5-minute snippet below.
Dubbed “The Septembrists”, the video was shot by artist Anthony Goicolea on a farm in Massachusetts, and showcases Browne’s latest collection.. According to Blue Vertical Studio (http://blueverticalstudio.com), “it was set in some bizarre, rural tailoring-fetish commune, like a blend of an Amish community and a military academy. In a series of vignettes, a dormitory full of young men arise, pick their own cotton to make and sew clothes, go octopus fishing at night to extract the inky dye, and perform ritual baptisms – all the while scrupulously dressed to the nines in tailored gauze and broadcloth.”
This video is so filled with so many social and political issues that even I wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft pole. Though, I will say that Browne is really set on this polarity between love and hate. Thankfully, I’m of the former.
