Tonight was the 33rd Annual People’s Choice Awards, which means a generous serving of cliched gowns, perfectly curled ringlets (a la only 1 of the 5 celebrity hairstylists they all somehow share), and more fake hair than Jessica Simpson uses in a week.
First is current resident of Mr. Blackwell’s Worst List, Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh, wearing an architectural black dress. This is close, but no cigar. The detail on the dress is wonderfully Courreges-like, but the high, almost Victorian, neckline and bowed shoes add an un-welcomed frou-frou to the dress. A real life doctor may have been able to make a smarter decision. Pfft.
Next is Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria looking much more refined and toned down, let’s say, than usual. Sure, she’s got on enough bling to support war in Sierra Leone for a good six months, but at least she salvaged a Middle Eastern woman’s hair by going sans extensions. Without the dark makeup, she might have achieved something close to classy.
Finally, we have Halle Berry wearing the gold minidress from The Collection That Everyone & Their Cousin Has Worn (a.k.a Gucci F/W 2006). Her love of all things Elie Saab is beyond me, but she almost always chooses something that is figure-flattering. And besides, after Catwoman, this one may not get another Oscar. Maybe she’s just dressing like one instead?
