I’ve always overlooked Versace’s mens collections because I was neither a. An Italian pimp or b. An Italian mobster. But it looks like graphic may be the key to Versace’s revival and more importantly, reintroduction into the domain of relevant men’s fashion.
For Fall/Winter, Donatella delivered a collection very reminiscent of her Fall/Winter 2006/2007 for women – think sleek, hard, and graphic. There were sharply cut double-breasted jackets and coats, monochrome outfits, and sportif-inspired decoration. Much to my delight, the collection lacked the usual “pimp daddy” look of Versace, offering something a bit more intelligent.
Overall, nothing forward or new, but toning down the trash and sending a rather lovely-looking Stam down the catwalk didn’t hurt either.
