What to do when the weather turns cold and your signature aesthetic is floaty chiffon gowns and delicate draping? You pump up the volume and pump up the details. This is what the sisters behind Rodarte, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, opted to do for their A/W 2007/2008 collection.
Coats came down luxuriously fabricated and progressively voluminous, making one of the strongest cases for the return of petticoats in recent years, while dresses came fashioned with 20′s dropped waists, pleats, and subdued ombres only seen in fairytale sunsets. This union of decided rigidity and ethereal fluidity, combined with their singular contemplations on volume, elevated Rodarte from the exhaustive sea of Marc Jacobs-inspired NY collections. And showed the fashion world that these girls are more than, if they choose to be, floaty chiffon gowns and delicate draping.
