L’Oreal Fashion Week Day Two Wrap Up

In an industry that celebrates precociousness, it’s nice to see good people in the spotlight. Marlene Shiff falls into the latter. With her Boutique Le Trou store on Queen St. boasting 90% Canadian designs, she has become quite the supporter of our home-grown talent. Her retail showing on Tuesday night featured, amongst others, Nada, Karamea, Jason Meyers, and Marie Saint Pierre. With models sporting beehive-sized styled hairdos that recalled historical goddesses – think Nefertiti meets Marie Antoinette – and dripping in more than $2 million in diamonds, it was a royal start to kick off the week. The highlights included Meyer’s anything-but-basic black cocktail dresses. A peak at the dark, leather-friendly looks at Mackage.

Following Le Trou was the elusive Mackage show. What began as a leather collection has now turned into a must-have name for stylish outerwear. The signature items – leather trimmed wool coats sporting asymmetrical zippers and big belts – were there in a bevy of incarnations. Working in a dark palette of black, navy, and grey, the duo of Elisha Dahan and Eran Elfassy also dished up shawl-collared nylon parkas, double-breasted pea coats, and trimmed sweaters. If slightly monotonous, their tailored aesthetic – right down to the angular black bobs worn by the models – will surely satisfy their followers.
