There’s something to be said of the ability of pre-fall and cruise collections to emancipate designers from the chains of continuous innovation. Even as the tides change, this remains a category where “commercial” is free of the dirty allusions chucked its way in the mainstay collection arena. And for Behnaz Sarafpour, these mid-season collections seem to be something of a blessing. Her Resort 2008 collection was a welcomed return to the clean lines and architectural romance she founded her label on over 6 years ago.
It was a collection that proudly underscored, although never in a yoking manner, a fashion pedigree marked by the likes of Narciso Rodriguez, Richard Tyler, and Isaac Mizrahi. Confining herself to black, white, slate, and a shot of mustard, Sarafpour offered a string of truncated cocktail dressed that were free from the tenebrous, slightly perverted, deviations of previous efforts. A black dress with white underpinning and decorative lace flowers married Opr Art with Art Nouveau; rather impressive.
