Keeping in step with the Chanel theme of Fashion Verbatim, this is my old black, double-breasted coat that Kaiser Karl Lagerfeld had designed for that capsule H & M collection. Priding myself on being a sore thumb, I immediately eschewed the black buttons that came on the coat, replacing them with metallic naval-inspired buttons. I like to think Ricardo Tisci was inspired by me.
Last winter, the 3/4 length black jacket felt staid and I replaced it with with a short, navy blue peacoat. But the winds of fashion – okay, more definitively, Miuccia Prada – have changed and I’m bringing out this old coat for a major revamp. There’s nothing wrong with naval, military-inspired jackets (I think the Acquasuctum jacket has been featured in every major magazine editorial this season), but the Inky-Hued Mongolian Urchin Miuccia proposed seems so much more forward.
I’ve bought some grey and black tortoise-style buttons (gold buttons seem too confrontational with the bravado of the fur) and synthetic black fur. Gone will go the gold buttons and the hem of the jacket (including the sleeves) will be trimmed in this super shiny black fabric.
If all goes wrong, a bit more fur will turn this baby into the perfect Big Foot costume for Halloween. No?

Adrian-
Make sure once you’ve transformed your winter coat, to post the new pic. I’m curious to see what this will look like in the end. Maybe take a pic of it on so I can see all the proportions? Also are you bringing this to a tailor or doing it all your self?
