I tend to be disappointed by things I hold in high regard far more often than I am pleasantly surprised by things I’ve already written off. The ad-space-meets-celebrity-jerk-circle known as W magazine took me off guard, momentarily, with this editorial in their April issue. More shots of Eniko Mihalik by Inez + Vinoodh? Jamie Bochert (right on the money in the age of the prepubescent clotheshanger)? Hannelore striking a lovely golden… shower pose? Yes! I like this (Below)…

…And it begins to dawn on me that I liked this before, too, when Marc Jacobs took a similar tack with his F/W 2008 campaign (Below). Huh.
Even Stella Tennant’s divine paleness (Above) can’t distract me from the points W is not scoring. All the blogs were abuzz this past fall, when their Kate Hudson cover drew comparisons to the September 1994 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, with Nadja Auermann (Below).

I do have my moments with W and their dramatic editorials, but overall? I’m kind of over it. What’s your take? Bonus points for contributing your vote via one-word answer starting with the letter w!

Excellent call
