WATER WORKS, IN ART AND IN FASHION

Roy Lichtenstein’s comic book heroines look beautiful no matter what they are doing; his 1963 painting Drowning Girl (Below Left) exhibits this as well as any. The “I don’t care!” aspect of the quote stands out against our girl’s dramatic, tearful expression. Seeing this Andrew Archer illustration today (Below Right) made me think of the Lichtenstein, which has been a favorite of mine for years.

This Solve Sundsbo picture of Guinevere (Below) from Another Magazine S/S ’09 has been around for a while; the featured Stephen Jones hat, in its transparent, fluid glory has not left my memory ever since. It actually reminds me of my beloved painting, as well. This is what fashion should be: inventive design executed to perfection, front and center.

It’s inspiring to see a central theme/concept interpreted across different mediums (by masters of their respective crafts, nonetheless). I’ll be wearing Jones’ hat in my deepest, most resplendent dreams tonight!
