I couldn’t mention Jurgi Persoons yesterday without thinking of make-up artist Inge Grognard, who did some notable collaborations with the designer in the late nineties/early two-thousands. She often disposes of traditional beauty ideals, instead transforming her subject into a work of art, often employing hand-designed masks or accessories. Friends with Martin Margiela in his teen years, she still oversees the makeup direction for every one of his runway shows. Whether it’s a just-birthed, glossy face, stark white lashes, or an eyeless latex mask, Grognard pushes the envelope like few do.

It’s Friday! I wish I could find myself some proper white mascara (it’s never opaque enough!). On the other hand, the latex mask might make dance floor navigation, as well as lurker deflection, a bit difficult….

These are so provocative and almost disturbing. I like that. I’d love to see more make-up that pushes the boundaries.
