Certain essential items make your entire wardrobe more workable. My favorite way to keep pieces like vintage Missoni sequin leggings or pink velvet hot pants from going way over the top is with a roughed up, basic t-shirt in a pallid noncolor. There are two ways to acquire the perfect tee:
1. Wait for your friend to unceremoniously dump/kick out his boyfriend, so you can stake claim to the now-ex’s poetically threadbare vintage version (I lucked out…it could happen to you kids).
OR
2. Hold your breath for the ideal fakeout version, the not-too-new, not-too-faux preworn shirt. These deconstructed tees (Below) by Elizabeth And James‘ hit the mark, with their enlarged crewnecks and droopy sleeves. Thanks to our friends at Chickdowntown.com, we’re giving away both tees (Below, a $180 total value) if you enter through the comments!

Whether you wear one with a Jak plaid shirt, cutoffs and booties or as means to bring a feathered chapeau down to earth, you’re guaranteed a downtown edge.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN WIN BOTH ELIZABETH AND JAMES SHIRTS…
1. Become a facebook fan or twitter follower of Chickdowntown (which will also alert you to future giveaways through the site!), and…
2. In the comments, describe the best outfit you can dream up that you’d pair with either color tee. I will choose a winner based on my favorite outfit from all eligible entries. By all eligible entries, I mean the winner will already need to be a facebook fan or twitter follower of Chickdowntown. Don’t make me love your outfit and not be able to pick you!
I will announce the winner in 15 days…looking forward to reading your entries!

I love these tees! I’d pair them with dark, skinny Current/Elliott jeans and either Mystique sandals for a casual look or some Giuseppe Zanotti heels for a more dramatic look. Thanks for the giveaway!
I love Elizabeth & James! These tees look so comfortable- thanks for the great giveaway!
I just love the distressed look!
I’d pair the beige shirt with a wide black statement belt cuffed at the waist and some crazy leggings like these Forever21 ones: http://canada.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=btms_leggings&product_id=2064300705&Page=1
To add a touch of class and colour, I’d wear these fabulous Yotam Solomon shoes as well: http://www.shopflick.com/stores/Yotam-Solomon/Okino-Heels
Been coveting these tees for way too long! Dreaming of wearing either color with new BB Dakota Brown Potter Faux Fur Vest (from Chickdowntown) with my favorite pair of slouchy skinny Current/Elliott jeans. Vintage silver native American cuff and black YSL tributes to add some sexy to this outfit. Swoon….
I don’t know if canadians are eligible, but I love this kind of thing so I’ll go for it anyway.
the strictly fantasy outfit: the white version, with helmut lang shearling vest (in “ecru”), the cropped jeans hussein chalayan is doing for j brand, and those martin margiela wedge ankle boots where the leather looks like wood.
and with clothes I actually own: the nude version of the t-shirt, with cuffed white zara basic shorts, a thrifted, shrunken black tuxedo jacket (sleeves rolled up), and my many-buckled nine west heels (as seen here: http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq159/lululu120/IMG_7696.jpg [not my feet]).
1. I follow Chickdowntown on twitter (I’m “BreakfastatSaks”)
2. I would pair the white deconstructed tee with a purple sequin mini skirt, black 6″ wedge booties, a wrist full of bangles, and some drapey chain necklaces. Oh and the perfect smokey eye makeup!
not one but 2 shirts?
omg, if i win i will have all three colors. PICK ME
I’d wear one of the deconstructed tees (in the case of my outfit, the color wouldn’t really matter) in more of a casual manner.
I’d wear my favorite Levi’s; medium wash, boot cut, with a not-too-low/not-too-high waist.
As in the true style of Summer parties, I’d keep the shoes stylish but, at the same time, somewhat casual thus, I’d couple the jeans & the shirt with a pair of wedges (preferably a pair of the unique-heeled variety). Plain textured in either a bright, solid color or a pair of natural upper-soled wedges.
Lastly, I’d carry this beautiful, manila-enveloped sized clutch that I purchased from the thrift store. With a beautiful textured almost rhino-esque (the animal!) material, it’d be the perfect carry-all for a perfect outfit with a soft, deconstructed tee, fitting well with the laid-back style I have imagined
Example:
They would both look great with either darkwash skinny jeans or grey skinny jeans, some chunky bracelets, and some red heels. I think keeping it simple is what would look best with these shirts
Ok, so I am now following chickdowntown on twitter! Now for these amazing t-shirts – there are just too many ways to wear them!
Lets see…
Day: I would pair the nude T with my 4 year old ripped chip and pepper light wash jeans rolled up to just above the ankle exposing the super cute yellow jazzy lace ups Sienna miller is wearing here: http://www.whowhatwear.com/website/full-article/accessory-report-unisex-shoes/.
I would keep the accessories to a minimum. Just my huge lion face ring and Donna Karan’s Crosstown Leather Messenger bag: http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/48280.
Night: I would wear the white T for a fun night out bar hopping. I’d grab a leather mini like these ladies are wearing here http://www.positivelycelebrity.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/leather_skirt1.jpg. Next, I’d top off the t-shirt with a gold drapped vest I won off ebay: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=220438532543. and pair it with my fave Elizabeth and James heels in black: http://www.shopbop.com/olisa-open-toe-ankle-strap/vp/v=1/845524441845669.htm?folderID=2534374302152291&fm=browse-brand-viewall-shopbysize. I’d love to finish off the look with the most adorable bag – Prada’s Velluto Sera Wristlet Pouch. The whole look would be perfectly grounded by the white T.
Opps! Forgot the prada pouch link: http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446232287&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492709665&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474399545537&bmUID=1248804506383&ev19=1:82.
I would pair the white top with current/elliott’s skinny black skinny jeans and a fierce heel by Giuseppe Zanotti!
I’d be sure to pair them with a skinny pair of jeans and some great heels. Give a feminine look to a more casual top!
I would wear the brownish one on the left with shiny black leggings. I’d wear gold gladiator sandals with chandelier earrings and carry a bright green patent leather bag. I like playing with pieces that are a little frumpy and dressy. Thanks!
Beautiful shirts – and an inspiring contest! Love the idea.
For the nude/greyish deconstructed tee, I would tuck it into a pair of harem pants like Helmut Lang’s Drop Crotch Pants: http://www.shopbop.com/drop-crotch-cropped-pants-helmut/vp/v=1/845524441844960.htm?folderID=2534374302159448&fm=other-viewall-shopbysize, with the shirt probably hanging off one shoulder. I’d also wear a black waist belt to have more definition on the waist. A modest cluster of black pearls around the neck plus a pair of beautiful YSL Cage heels, like such: http://obsessedwithshoes.com/image.axd?picture=2009%2f4%2f39233_in_l.jpg to top off the look.
A Polyvore compliation that I made as well to visualize the look better: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=10875978
For the white tee, I would pair it with a grey boyfriend blazer, with the sleeves rolled up to mid arm/elbow length, and some dark wash jean shorts. Finish the look with a pair of gorgeous Sigerson Morrison nude cage gladiator flats: http://www.lagarconne.com/store/item.htm?itemid=4783&sid=253 and some chunky silver rings on my fingers!
I would totally pair one of these with a pair of skinny jeans and some killer sandals, thanks for the great giveaway!
I would wear either of the tees with denim cutoffs, gladiator flats (me + heels = bad idea), an over-the-shoulder brown leather pouch, and a straw fedora with a colourful printed fabric wrapped around the brim. No jewelry, clean make-up.
Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway!
