Unlike previous years, it was a Marc Jacobs fall/winter 2010 show that started on time with all the models dressed and ready to go inside a oversized box. The wrapping paper was unwrapped by Marc and MJ’s CEO Robert Duffy (known to most thanks to his recent Twitter fame). The pair hugged on the runway and then the focus was on the models all dressed in a palette of muted greys and beige, as a remixed version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow played out in the cavernous room.
A softer collection than previous years, the collection was hopeful and almost comfortable with soft textures and a masculine quality. Trousers were crisp with sturdy coats over feminine dresses and tailored pieces. There was the light and airy pieces, sequined looks and even a fur trimmed coats, but it was his gowns that took you to a fantastical place and allowed you to dream like you were about to be swept away to a ball. It was a distinctly grown up collection, perhaps a reflection on all the dramas going on in the world; Marc Jacobs gave viewers hope as his designs showed maturity. Could Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2010 collection be the uniform to take us into a new, more hopeful decade? Watch the full show as it was streamed online yesterday.
