The 2010 Academy Awards didn’t disappoint. Usually I ignore the fact that the show is on and wait patiently for the red carpet looks, but this year I watched the whole thing. From the red carpet pre-show through to the end of the ceremony. And we love it. Show aside, who’s looks did we love, loathe and though was ok? We’ve sorted it all out and removed our salt shaker system (just for this week).

Our top 4 looks
We loved Sandra Bullock’s elegant sleek look (forget the naysayers that it said she looks like the Oscar statue, she was stunning). We loved that Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a print, always dependable to stick to something a little left of centre, she didn’t disappoint in this strapless gown. It was elegant but still her. Meanwhile Meryl Streep showed that you can look fabulous at any age with this demure but sexy draped white dress by Project Runway alum, Chris March. The drapery is just fantastic and the colour looked great on the red carpet. Last but not least, there is Tina Fey. She’s just an amazing woman, that I couldn’t help but love the Flintstone’s feel to this dress. And she’ so cute to boot.
Our runner ups
Unsurprisingly they were all strapless, perhaps why we only liked them because strapless is so expected on the red carpet. Carrie Mulligan looks great in her black sweetheart neckline dress. The embellishments were beautiful but I do wish we couldn’t see her 90s style sandals. Amanda Seyfried looked like a princess, but the look just missed the mark. Meanwhile Rachel McAdams looks amazing in her print dress, it was flowing and suited her down to the T, but again…. It missed the immediate ‘we LOVE it’ feeling. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Cameron Diaz on the red carpet and she looks stunning. The embellished gown is just dreamy but every other person seems to be wearing a shade of ivory this year?
Our love it or loath it
We’ll give you our reasons why in quick sharp points:
Miley Cyrus: Shoulder back darling, did you cut two dresses and make them into one?
Nicole Richie: has aged about 20 years in this vintage-look gown.
Sarah Jessica Parker: loved the back of this dress, don’t like the front. The hair is so expected from SJP.
Zoe Salander: Loved the top half, it had wow factor but when the front of this dress opened up we hated it
Jennifer Lopez: since her come back, JLo has been trying too hard to keep up with the likes of Rihanna and Beyonce for me. Leave edgy and cool to the younger girls and be comfortable in your own skin.

Maggie Gyllenhaal the prreties for sure!!!
Helen I so agree with your comments on Sandra Bullock’s outfit – very elegant, lovely clean lines and the shimmering lower half of her dress was very, shall we say, ‘appropriate’ for the occasion, considering the award she took home that night!
Streep, Gillenhaal and Parker are the winners for me.
