I can’t get over how languid and magnetic the clothes look in the F/W ’11 BCBG campaign, and how strong the colors are. The models, Suzie Bird and Theres Andersson, make a dynamic pair, awash in a technicolor dream.
While I admit to fawning over this, it only took me a minute to realize that the overall impression was a bit…familiar.
Givenchy F/W ’10, anyone (Below)? The blue tones, the rich scarlet, the pink hair. I don’t intend to call out BCBG for outright copycatting when it’s not as if Givenchy was the first label in history to use dyed hair and disonant colors in the same campaign. That said, the similarities in essence are giving me a serious case of déja vu.
Givenchy’s F/W ’10 and S/S ’11 collections were such a recent high point in fashion that I am surprised BCBG didn’t add a disonant or unique element, if not only to distance themselves from this comparison.
I did like seeing the yellow come into play in this other BCBG pic (Below), though the model’s legs create an awkward, amputated shape I can’t help staring it. Kind of a mind-bender.
What do you think? Am I just splitting pink hairs, or are the red BCBG/Givenchy images a bit too close for comfort?
