I really want a locket with Laura Palmer’s face inside it (the dead bright of life prom queen from Twin Peaks).

Should I order a gold chain with a blank locket from eBay, then go all the way to an IRL local drug store that has a photo department to crop the picture to fit in this locket? Hmm, THAT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF WORK IN #2K12.

In the forgotten analog eras (90s, 70s, 80s, 60s, 1200s or whatever), people put photos of loved ones who have died or anything with sacred meaning in their lockets.Well here in #2K12, we don’t do that. What does one do, when they are in need of digital sentimental storage in this on-the-go world?

They turn to the almighty USB stick.

On your USB locket you may want to keep your diary .docs, your favorite songs, home videos, really anything. The best part of USB lockets is we will never know what each person has inside! Naturally, the first thing I put on mine was a .JPEG of Laura Palmer. #dreamscometrue

USB lockets should be worn by your heart like a cross. In order to do so, find a USB stick with the silver ring that allows you to put a chain inside of it. Can’t get much simpler than that. #SILVER #METALLIC #AUDIOPUNK

If this revolution happens on a global scale, maybe designers will start making USB sticks (Jeremy Scott x Sandisk?). I want to go to Starbucks and see everyone rocking a USB locket, so I can be surrounded by technological mystery.

THE CD NECKLACE

All week, I’ve been listening to “Return Of Saturn” by No Doubt on my baby blue boom-box . I really love this album so much, I just wish I could put a chain through the hole in the middle of the CD and wear it out so people could understand my fandom for ND, wouldn’t that be cool? Going out and seeing people wearing their favorite CDs on their neck is like a #NOWPLAYING display ’round your neck (yeah it is kind of Flava Flav but whatever)!

I think it’d be really interesting and shameless if pop stars started to wear their own logos on their clothing. Imagine Azealia Banks wearing a shirt with her 1991 EP cover on it. It would be raw! #confidence #fuckupthefun #diplo

Shirley Manson did this at the 1999 Grammys, wearing her band Garbage’s logo on a dress. A CLEAR, BADA$$ and FUTURISTIC statement, basically like every Garbage song ever made. (don’t get me started).

THE IPOD CHOKER

Who remembers when the first iPod commercials came out? Remember the black figures wearing the iconic white headphones that still hypnotize to this day?

Apple iPod headphones are possibly the coolest things ever. Timeless, sleek, and simple..not to mention that they make DOPE choker. I love the idea of wearing sound. Rock your #technology. I don’t know how to go about doing this without choking yourself tbh. Find some old broken iPod headphones (we all have at least one pair), and snip ‘em up to fit your neck. Once you have an example, you should be able figure it out on your own. #YOLO

P.S if some of you boys are totally uncomfortable with wearing a choker, it is fine, Jared Leto rocked it on MY SO CALLED LIFE!

ABOUT FACE: DANIEL PALILLO’S EXPRESSIVE POP STREETWEAR

Credit goes to Seven New York for being the first place I ever saw Daniel Palillo‘s eponymous cult line of oversized tees and printed leggings with soft, 3-dimensional embellishments. And while I love high maintenance items like bondage corset belts and leather leggings as much as the next space cadet, nothing really beats enormous, loud “lazy day” pieces that feel like pajamas but still put your friends’ outfits to shame. Palillo, who is easier to wear than DI$COUNT and less ubiquitous than Jeremy Scott, has nailed this market.

We’ve been seeing goofy faces and giant text on streetwear for a while now, but my inner #TEEN4LYFE approves. Obviously I’m a fan; I used Palillo’s clown face tee (below) in an editorial I styled for SuperSuper! Magazine recently, shot by Jessica Weiser with art by Seychelle OD Allah.

MAXIME SIMOENS’ SPRING ’12 COUTURE COLLECTION GOES BEYOND BEYONCÉ

While 26-year-old french couturier Maxime Simoens may be best known, at least to most, for the purple silk dress that Beyoncé wore on the cover of her “Deluxe” album (below), it was his Fall 2011 Couture collection that piqued my interest in him, not for its perfection, but for its promise. Unfortunately, he didn’t have Bey’s airbrushing pit team (literally, in this case! #LULZ) to blur, liquefy and smooth his actual clothes within an inch of their lives.

So, while we can feel a Dereon vibe emanating ever-so-slightly from his first Spring ’12 jumpsuit (below left), we still like it, and the rest of the collection as a whole did feel stronger than his last, even with a few missteps. This young gun is worth keeping tabs on.

I have to say, the “office-meets-clubwear” vibe of the matchy bandeau pantsuit shown above right is so bad it’s good- Mondo 2000 goes to a board meeting. Although I wish the pants were even wider. WHERE WILL IT GO NEXT?

One thing I can respect is that this entire collection wasn’t Beyoncéfied beyond all reason; if I was a designer of this age and ilk, and an enormous celebrity wore one of my dresses in such a prominent fashion, I would be tempted to design my entire next showing with a similar client in mind. That pitfall (#LULZ AGAIN) was successfully avoided, with gowns like this interesting orange number (above left) and chic black piece (above right) in flattering silhouettes that come readily accessorized with color and texture.

These last looks, for the red carpet Vulcan in you, are both simple and complex at once, and much like the rest of the collection, seem best fit for a woman who is comfortable not adding chandelier earrings and Kardashian eyeliner to an evening look. Worn simply with a slick shoe and diamond studs, there are a lot of appealing options Simoens presents here, options that have enough going on to become muddy when weighed down with much else other than confidence. Or, in Beyoncé’s case, a lot of photoshopping.

*It MUST BE NOTED for no purpose other than to appease my own rage how passionately and pointedly I despise the curved accent aigu on the “É” in “Beyoncé” on the cover of Deluxe. Gross.

SKIRTING, THE ISSUE: THE #MANSKIRTS OF THE FALL COLLECTIONS

Warm weather is here, and just as we’re finally able to, oh, I don’t know, wear what we loved on the Spring #2K12 runways, we’re already contemplating the fall collections. I personally can’t get over the number of autumn looks which feature #MANSKIRTS; pretty sure I speak for a solid percentage of guys (even a portion of #FASHIONY ones) when I say that at first, some of these could be a tough sell.

Jean Paul Gaultier‘s contributions prove my point that this look works within a certain context, dependent on styling. The button fronts on both pieces add a touch of formality, class and even masculinity… however, if the top half of your outfit is more Kevin Federline (above left), leave this one to the dressed-up, albeit freaky horseman of the apocalypse (above right).

The Givenchy men’s collection, on the other hand, had me further sold. Though we recommend rethinking the “IS THAT CHAPLIN (OR HITLER)?” facial jewelry. #WUT?

Comme Des Garçons finally did it for me, by mixing the clean and messy packages all into one. On a side note, I have been seeing more and more looks incorporating the moment’s patterns in monochrome to accentuate plainer textures; reverse psychology is hard at work in #2K12. #FASHIONVERBATIM likes this.

Overall, it seems safe to say that men’s skirts will be popping up on more and more, in closets and on street corners, styled clean or dirty, by the confident fashionisto.

ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US: GAMER GEAR FROM BLACK MILK CLOTHING

The brainchild of Australian based designer James Lillis, Black Milk‘s collection of leggings, bodysuits and dresses are like easter eggs for the limbs of #GAMER BABES. Want to find them? Follow me like Pac-Man through the pathways of this virtual fantasy world, and try not to short circuit.

What better way to adventure than to become the game? Level up by turning your torso into a Game Boy, stems into Tetris and swimwear into a Mario star.

These virtual gems are pressing all the right buttons- but unlike your #FAVORITE childhood NES game, the Black Milk woman doesn’t come with a controller. Sadly, quantities are limited, and once the pieces sell out they could be gone forever. #GAMEOVER :(

FRUIT ON THE BOTTOM: WE LOVE ZURIICK’S GRAPE-HUED SOLES + SIMPLE-YET-CLEVER STYLES

When I first found out about Zuriick shoes a few years back, I was hooked. Never one to shy away from fitting “casual” sneakers into sleeker looks, I bought a pair of the flashiest high-tops I saw and wore them into the ground with everything. What started as an #IMPULSEBUY turned into watching years of quality shoes come out of this brand.

This pair (above) were what my first ones looked like; the purple vulcanized soles (below) came as a crazy surprise when they came in the mail. On a fairly simple shoe, it’s always nice to be packing a little more than meets the eye.

One of the things I love most about this low-top style (below) is the wrap-around leather piece that makes up the toe. Kind of odd:

I’m a sucker for earth-tone color schemes as well, as long as unique details like oversized rivets (below) are in order. Do want.

THERE’S NOTHING LOW BUDGET ABOUT DI$COUNT’S WILD WARES

Now OBVIOUSLY we love fashion here at, ahem, #FASHIONVERBATIM, but sometimes the word brings to mind someone uncomfortably adjusting their waistband in a dressing room mirror, scowling and wondering why “what’s right for this season” looks and feels oh-so-wrong. We believe dressing up should be FUN ART, and above all, self-entertainment. Who gives a #FUCK what anyone else thinks? (We don’t).

Thusly, when I came across mind-melting Australian label DI$COUNT, I felt an instant #SAMEBRAIN kinship with its two designers, Cami James and Nadia Napreychikov. Running the gamut from studded, spangled, slick, and trippy, to rude and rough-and-tumble, each of their pieces has that “no brainer” quality: antisocial mood? None of your outfits doing the trick? Toss on one of these babies and you’ll feel ready for anything. It’s a no brainer.

It makes me slightly bitter to share items like this sequined oversized eye tee (above) with you all, because frankly I’d rather be clicking “OMG BUY!” and leaving you none the wiser. I suppose I’m feeling charitable today.

Tropical print shorts and rainbow-Rorschach jackets? Sure, bright colors are “in,” but pieces like this, which could be mistaken for a once-in-a-lifetime thrift store find or a crazy-couture museum exhibition in equal measure, will never be “out”. Unless it’s to a party, of course.

Their online shop is divided into two sections, one for gloriously spastic one-of-a-kind (or close to it) artisanal pieces, like the jacket shown above, and the other for equally stimulating but slightly more wallet-friendly styles. Either way, just browsing through the site is worth a few minutes– You’ll #LOL, you’ll cry, and you’ll definitely be want be left wanting MORE!
